Insurance Apps in ChatGPT

Posted:

Background: what a ChatGPT app is

ChatGPT apps are third party tools that run directly inside a ChatGPT conversation, so a person can complete a task without leaving the chat. Insurance providers and price comparison sites have since launched apps that let users get indicative prices, run comparisons, or start a quote in plain language.

In the UK, several well known UK insurers, comparison sites, and specialist providers now have ChatGPT apps. They are a discovery and intake channel. In almost every case you finish the full quote, underwriting, and purchase on the provider's own regulated website.

How ChatGPT apps can be helpful for insurance

Our experts have extensively used and reviewed all of the available insurance apps for ChatGPT and found that the appeal is mostly about speed and convenience at the research stage. This is what apps promise, though they don't always deliver on this promise:

  • A less stressful quote pathway. Websites with extensive forms and complex, regulated instructions can be intimidating and confusing for users. Finding insurance inside ChatGPT combines the helpful, explanatory ChatGPT interface with the structured inputs required to generate an insurance quote.
  • Fewer forms to start. Most insurance journeys begin with long forms across multiple tabs. A ChatGPT app lets you describe your situation in normal language and get an indicative price from a handful of details. Compare the Market, for example, returns an indicative car premium from your registration, postcode, age, and no claims discount. However, most apps then ask a full set of follow-up questions on their standard website - some even require the user to re-answer the same questions.
  • Comparison without leaving the chat. Comparison apps such as MoneySuperMarket and GoCompare have emphasised making it easy for existing customers to re-run existing quotes, letting you search across many providers inside the conversation if you've already registered on their website and entered your details.
  • Quoting at the moment of research. Because many people already use ChatGPT to plan and research, an app can surface a price at the point you are thinking about cover, rather than sending you off to a separate site first.

How Prompted delivers on the promise of making insurance easier with ChatGPT

  • With the Prompted app the user can answer a short and simple set of questions in free-form text, as they would in a conversation, and instantly generate an accurate, live travel insurance quote.
  • No prescribed set or sequence of questions, the Prompted app will return indicative quotes until the user has shared all the details required.
  • The Prompted app doesn't overwhelm the user with results - it curates the most relevant policies and shows them to the user to make comparison and selection easy and stress-free.
  • Prompted offers live quotes and can take information shared earlier in the chat (for example, holiday booking information) to generate accurate live quotes that can be rapidly purchased without filling in the same information again.

When ChatGPT apps can be less helpful for insurance

Our experts have extensively used and reviewed all of the available insurance apps for ChatGPT and found that though apps can offer a quick and easy route to an indicative quote, there are times when this can be more unhelpful than helpful.

  • The indicative price is not representative. Websites with extensive forms and complex, regulated instructions can be intimidating and confusing for users. Finding insurance inside ChatGPT combines the helpful, explanatory ChatGPT interface with the structured inputs required to generate an insurance quote. The SimplyBusiness app and MoneySupermarket apps follow this approach.
  • The user has to enter the same information multiple times. The VanCompare app follows this approach.
  • The app makes unfounded recommendations. Comparison apps such as MoneySuperMarket and GoCompare have emphasised making it easy for existing customers to re-run existing quotes, letting you search across many providers inside the conversation if you've already registered on their website and entered your details.
  • The app makes the user enter lots of details, then simply drops them onto a website to start again. The app is pretending to be helpful, but it's actually a barrier to getting a real quote. The SimplyBusiness app follows this approach.
  • The app re-runs quotes based on old information that the user must then meticulously review looking for out-of-date information. It seems simple, but if the basis of the quote is no longer valid, it's the user's fault. The user must trawl through long lists of quote details to avoid taking out invalid cover. The MoneySupermarket and GoCompare apps follow this approach.

How Prompted avoids making insurance more time-consuming with ChatGPT

The Prompted ChatGPT app is thoughtfully designed to make finding and buying insurance quicker, easier and less stressful.

  • The Prompted ChatGPT app makes a clear distinction between indicative and live prices - and can offer both depending on how much information the user wants to share.
  • Once a user enters their information into the Prompted ChatGPT app, they don't need to re-enter it before making a purchase. The quote they see is real and available.
  • Prompted is regulated as an insurance Appointed Representative by the FCA and is careful not to offer advice, make recommendations and to treat vulnerable customers appropriately.
  • The Prompted ChatGPT app can run quotes for new users and can utilise context and user memories to run quotes based on existing details. Just turn on memories in the app.

Important limitations to keep in mind

Within FCA expectations of a fair, clear, and not misleading picture, the benefits come with real caveats:

  • Indicative is not the same as a full quote. Many apps give an estimate based on minimal inputs. The figure can change once full underwriting questions are answered on the provider's site.
  • The app is a channel, not advice. These apps do not give you a personal recommendation about which policy suits you. The decision, and the responsibility for checking the cover fits, stays with you.
  • Price is not the whole story. Excess levels, exclusions, claims limits, and policy wording matter as much as the headline premium. Read the policy document and the Insurance Product Information Document (IPID) before buying.
  • Disclosure still applies. You must answer questions honestly and disclose material facts (for example, medical conditions for travel cover, or business use of a vehicle). Failing to do so can lead to a claim being refused or a policy cancelled.
  • AI can make mistakes. A conversational interface can misread a request. As a user, you should check that the details captured match what you actually told it before you proceed.
  • Check authorisation. Confirm the provider behind the app is authorised on the FCA Financial Services Register. Some apps in the directory are built for other countries and may not be regulated for UK sale. For example, HelloSafe offers regulated products to UK users but is not authorised to do so.

2. How to add and invoke an app in ChatGPT

There are two common ways to do this. You need to be signed in to ChatGPT.

Add an app first

  1. Open the Apps section, which appears in the side column of the chat interface, or go to Settings, then Apps and Connectors.
  2. Browse or search for the app, for example search "Prompted" or "insurance".
  3. Select the app and tap Connect, then choose whether to continue with or without your account.
  4. Once connected, the app is available to call in your conversations, and ChatGPT may also suggest it when you ask a relevant question, such as a question about business risk or car cover.

Use @ to invoke an app inside a chat

  1. Start a new message and type the app name with an @ at the start of your prompt to invoke it, for example "@Prompted, I need travel insurance for a week in Spain" or "@Prompted get me a travel insurance quote".
  2. ChatGPT recognises the app and, the first time, guides you through connecting it.
  3. Follow the prompts. Some apps let you continue with or without signing in to an account.

Add the app to a chat with +

  1. Click the "+" icon at the left-hand side of a chat box.
  2. Click on "More".
  3. A list of your connected apps will display from which you can select the app you wish to include in your conversation.
  4. The app will then be selected and referenced when appropriate.

Insurance apps available to UK customers, and what each one does

The apps below are grouped by type. Availability and features change quickly, so treat this as a snapshot. Where an app gives only an indicative price, you complete the full quote and purchase on the provider's own site.

Travel insurance

Prompted (travel insurance) Prompted is an FCA-authorised provider that generates and compares single trip travel insurance quotes for UK travellers inside ChatGPT. You give your trip details (destination, who is travelling and their dates of birth, departure date, and number of nights) and it returns a comparison of regulated quotes across several policies, grouped by categories such as all rounder, high rating, low price, low excess, and high cover. It can display both indicative and live quotes. You can then select a policy and buy it on their website. To invoke it, connect the app and then type "Prompted" (or "@Prompted") at the start of your message along with your trip details. Two points to note: quotes assume no existing medical conditions and no cruise or extreme activities, so you disclose any medical conditions or activities before purchase and the price updates; and, in line with its regulated status, Prompted presents the options but does not tell you which policy to choose.

Price comparison sites

MoneySuperMarket (compare insurance and bills) New customers can get an indicative car insurance estimate from about five answers, while existing customers can get an instant full quote from data already held if they have completed a full quote on the Moneysupermarket website. It searches a panel of providers and has since expanded to offer indicative quotes for home, van, and pet insurance, plus credit cards, loans, current and savings accounts, broadband, and energy.

Compare the Market (compare and save on insurance) Provides a conversational car insurance estimate for a UK registered private car. You enter a few details, including vehicle registration, postcode, age, and no claims discount; the app retrieves vehicle data and returns an indicative quote as a pre-quote step before you proceed to a full quote.

GoCompare (compare insurance) A ChatGPT app that lets users compare car, van, and home insurance within the chat. You open the Apps section, search "GoCompare", and connect it to your chat; you can then search for policies, edit details, and re-run quotes. Go.Compare is part of Future plc and is regulated by the FCA. (Note: GoCompare may not appear in every version of the directory listing depending on when it was captured, but the app is live.)

Direct insurers

Aviva (home and life insurance quotes) Aviva was the first major UK insurer to launch a ChatGPT app, in March 2026. It first offered an initial home insurance quote for Aviva's Signature Home Insurance from a few questions such as name, address, contact details, and policy type, with a link through to Aviva's website to add covers, review documentation, and complete the purchase. In June 2026 Aviva expanded the app to include life insurance quotes. This is a direct insurer journey, not a comparison.

Specialist and small business cover

Simply Business (find small business insurance) The UK's first small business insurance app in ChatGPT, launched in April 2026 (with a parallel US version). It returns an indicative price from four details: trade, annual turnover, years trading, and UK postcode. You are then directed to the Simply Business website to complete underwriting and buy. Simply Business is a digital broker with a panel of insurers, covering products such as public and professional liability, business owner's policies, and landlord cover. The company notes that no personally identifiable information is collected within the ChatGPT interface itself.

Meshed Cover (quote for business insurance) Listed in the ChatGPT insurance directory as a business insurance quoting app. As with other broker and marketplace apps, expect a short conversational intake that leads to a quote, with the full journey completed on the provider's platform. Check the cover and the provider's authorisation before buying.

Cycleplan (quote for bicycle insurance) A specialist cycling insurance app from Ripe, a UK digital managing general agent, launched in April 2026. Unlike apps that give only an estimate, Cycleplan provides a confirmed, bindable quote through the conversation and links you straight to the declarations and payment page on the Cycleplan website. It offers buildable cover for cyclists and their equipment.

Vancompare.com (compare van insurance prices) A UK van insurance comparison app. It compares cover from UK insurers and is built around van and pickup use cases, with the full quote completed on the VanCompare.com site. Because van cover often depends on how the vehicle is used, accurate disclosure of business use, modifications, and carriage of goods matters.

Other apps you may see in the directory

The "insurance" search in the App Directory also surfaces apps aimed at other markets or niches, which UK users should check carefully for availability and regulation. Examples that are not regulated for UK insurance sales include HelloSafe Travel Insurance and VisitorsCoverage (travel), Tuio (home, a Spanish digital insurer), BizCover AU (business insurance in Australia), Nsure, Seguro Match, and Albsig. Presence in the directory does not mean a product is suitable for, or regulated for sale in, the UK.

Consumer and regulatory notes

  • These apps are distribution and discovery channels. They do not provide regulated advice or a personal recommendation about which policy is right for you.
  • Indicative prices can change once full underwriting questions are answered.
  • Read the policy wording and IPID, and check excess, exclusions, and limits, not just the premium.
  • Disclose all material facts honestly, including medical conditions for travel cover and business use for vehicle cover.
  • Confirm the provider is authorised on the FCA Financial Services Register (register.fca.org.uk) before buying.
  • For destination conditions such as visas, safety, or vaccinations, check the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice rather than relying on an insurance app.
